Clothes Closet
Committee
For those who don’t know, our RRISD
Council of PTA's operates a “Clothes Closet” for
families in the district who need assistance getting
clothes for their students. The need for this
service increases as the district grows, economic
hardship increases and natural disasters happen.
Qualifying families are determined by each school
counselor. Each semester approximately 800
students receive: 5 shirts, 5 jeans, 5 pairs of
socks and 5 pairs of underwear.
Each PTA is responsible for working at
the Clothes Closet one morning a month. Volunteer hours are from 9:30am to 11:30am
- just 2 hours a month! The Clothes Closet is located just down Gattis School Road in the parking lot of Voigt
Elementary School (by the soccer fields).
Our PTA holds a continual clothing drive
to help stock the Clothes Closet with neat, clean, dress
code appropriate clothing for all ages. Jeans,
jackets new socks, and new underwear are always in
demand. The collection bin is
located just outside the Attendance Office.
Included again this
year is the "Baby Clothes Closet".
RRISD has a Teen Parenting Program that assists young
student mothers by providing baby clothes, baby toys and
diapers. These mothers are enrolled in campuses
throughout the district.
If you are interested in the Clothes Closet committee or would like to
volunteer for a monthly shift, please contact
Rosie Beattie.
Financial donations are always welcome!
