Red Ribbon Week
Committee
Red Ribbon Week is a national awareness campaign
dedicated to Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug prevention
awareness in our schools and communities. In 1985,
the "red ribbon" was adopted as a symbol to honor the
life of Enrique "KiKi" Camarena. He was a Drug
Enforcement Agent who lost his life while working
undercover to investigate a major drug cartel in Mexico.
This committee works with the school
counselors to come up with the activities and theme for
Red Ribbon Week. It is usually the last week of October
and is a nationally celebrated event.
For the 2009 school
year, we had a different theme for each day, giveaways
for the kids, a speaker and more! We also hosted a Parent Education Night relating to
drug/alcohol awareness on Wed., October 28.
The Project Alert program was introduced to parents at
this meeting. Find more info about Project Alert
at
