All RMS Families are invited to come and play Bingo, with a chance to win a book!
Much of the money raised by the PTA is used to fund Cultural Arts assemblies. The PTA sponsors four-five different Cultural Arts programs throughout the year. They range from Character Development to Science shows.
Three dances are planned for the 2017-2018 school year. They are open to all RMS students (K-5). Students enjoy a live DJ with snacks for sale. Volunteers are needed to check students in and out, distribute food and drinks, and to chaperone the event.
End of Year Celebration
Every June, the PTA holds an outdoor celebration. Parents are needed to help with games, crafts and food distribution.
The PTA tries to host several enrichment events throughout the school year. These events are educational in nature and occur outside of school hours. Past events have included parent CPR classes, student cooking classes, and exercise events.
Family Fun Nights
Several Family Fun Nights are planned throughout the year. Students can come to the all purpose room with their families to enjoy a show such as Rizzo’s Reptile World, the Bubble Guy, Mad Science Show, and others. Pizza, drinks, and snacks are available for purchase.
Fifth Grade Moving Up
This committee is responsible for coordinating everything related to Moving Up Ceremony including planning the ceremony, decorations, programs, DVD, pictures and music. Additionally, this committee is responsible for fundraising additional money for Moving Up expenses that are not included in the RMS PTA budget.
Special lunchtime snacks can be ordered for most half-day sessions. Typical offerings include slice of pizza or bagels and juice. Volunteers are needed during the snack period (generally 45 minutes to an hour) to help distribute food to the students.
Held in early December, this event provides a variety of gift items ranging in price from approximately $.50 to $10.00. Each class visits the fair twice so that the children may preview and purchase gifts for family and friends. Parents are welcome to shop also. The Holiday Shop is usually open on evening in addition to daytime hours. Volunteers are needed to help set up the evening prior to the shop, as well as during school hours to assist students in selecting and purchasing items during the fair.
In May, prior to Mother’s Day, potted plants and flowers are offered for sale at prices ranging from $.50 to $10.00. Children bring in money on that day and visit the sale with their class. Advance sale order forms are sent out. Additionally, parents are also welcome to shop. Volunteers are needed to set up and assist students in making their purchases.
Room Parents are responsible for planning and organizing classroom parties held for Halloween and the December holidays. In September, they collect party funds from parents of children in their class and use the money to plan games, crafts or other activities as well as organize donations for refreshments for the parties. Additionally, they are asked to serve and coordinate chaperones on class trips, if needed. Room parents are also a key voice of the PTA to the parents of the children in their class. They are responsible for helping the PTA enlist volunteers for events.
Each year the PTA awards two scholarships to deserving graduates of Parsippany High Schools. Volunteers are needed to help in the selection process.
A school-wide directory is prepared each year listing the names, addresses and phone numbers of Rockaway Meadow School students. Participation in the directory is voluntary. This directory is very useful in contacting other students for play dates, party invitations and to verify homework. Volunteers are needed to gather the information, compile the data and coordinate its distribution. As a reminder, all information provided is for the exclusive use of the RMS staff, students and parents and should never be sold or used for any other reason except RMS business.
Staff Appreciation Day
In May, this committee organizes a lunch for the teachers, aides, custodial staff and other staff members to be served in the Faculty Staff Room. Volunteers are needed to plan the lunch, arrange for food, send out the invitations, coordinate the baskets and to set up the Staff Room.
